Wound Care

Personalized Solutions for Healing Support

Wound care is not one-size-fits-all. From surgical recovery to chronic skin ulcers, each wound and each patient requires a unique approach. At Cohen Tenoudji Pharmacy, we work closely with healthcare providers to prepare custom-compounded medications designed to support the care of acute and chronic wounds.

Our pharmacy team can formulate wound care preparations that are personalized in strength, ingredient combination, and delivery format, with consideration for individual sensitivities, skin types, and provider recommendations.

Understanding the Stages of Wound Healing

Wound healing is a complex, natural process that occurs in several distinct stages. Understanding these phases can help patients and caregivers better manage care and recognize what to expect during recovery. Each stage plays an essential role in the body’s effort to repair damaged tissue and restore skin integrity.

  • Hemostasis (Immediately After Injury) This initial phase begins within minutes of the injury. The body works to stop bleeding by constricting blood vessels and forming a clot. This “plug” helps protect the wound and provides a foundation for healing to begin.
  • Inflammation (First 1–4 Days) Once bleeding is controlled, the immune system activates to clean the wound. White blood cells remove bacteria, dead cells, and debris. During this time, the area may appear red, swollen, or warm—this is a natural part of the healing process.
  • Proliferation (4–24 Days) In this stage, the body begins to rebuild the damaged area. New tissue forms, blood vessels regenerate, and collagen is produced. This helps restore skin structure and strength. You may notice the wound beginning to contract and close as new skin cells grow.
  • Maturation or Remodeling (Up to Several Months) The final phase involves strengthening and refining the repaired tissue. Collagen continues to reorganize, and the skin regains more flexibility. While the area may still be sensitive, scarring typically begins to fade over time.

Each phase is critical, and the progression may vary depending on the wound type, its location, the patient’s age and health status, and how well the wound is protected and cared for. At Cohen Tenoudji Pharmacy, our team works with prescribers to prepare customized compounded wound care medications to support patients through each stage of healing, always with individualized attention and precision.

Common Conditions Requiring Wound Care Support

Compounded wound care medications may be used to support treatment plans for:

Surgical wounds or incisions

Diabetic foot ulcers

Pressure sores (decubitus ulcers)

Venous stasis ulcers

Burns (minor or superficial)

Skin graft donor or recipient sites

Radiation dermatitis

Traumatic skin injuries

Wound infections or delayed healing

Whether the wound is acute (such as a post-surgical incision) or chronic (like a non-healing ulcer), personalized therapies may help address contributing factors such as moisture imbalance, bacterial colonization, or skin breakdown.
